Hegseth Quotes Fake Bible Verse

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stirred controversy on Wednesday by reciting a fabricated Bible verse from Quentin Tarantino’s 1994 film Pulp Fiction during a prayer service at the Pentagon. The passage, falsely attributed to Ezekiel 25:17, was presented as a prayer delivered by Sandy 1, an A-10 crew member, before a recent rescue mission in Iran.
Hegseth, speaking at a worship event, urged attendees to join him in prayer, describing the text as CSAR 25:17, meant to echo the biblical verse. He recited, “The path of the downed aviator is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of camaraderie and duty shepherds the lost through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children.” The prayer continued with a vow of vengeance, altering the original film script to reference the Sandy 1 call sign instead of “the Lord.”

What’s the latest?
Real Estate: Canada’s housing market is diverging, with mid-sized cities like Quebec City seeing >10% price growth, while Toronto and Vancouver are down ~4.5%+ YoY due to condo oversupply. National average prices fell 2% to $812,900, but are up 0.7% QoQ, with Montreal rising 3.3% YoY. Tight supply in smaller markets and shifting demand are driving regional gains, while urban condo demand remains weak.
Airlines: U.S. airlines raised fares and fees after jet fuel surged ~95% to $4.88/gallon since Feb. 28, prompting a lawmaker to demand price cuts if fuel declines. Delta alone faces a $2B fuel headwind, and airlines have increased bag fees while also reducing capacity, which can keep fares elevated. Despite higher costs, travel demand remains strong, especially among premium consumers.
Markets: Canada’s S&P/TSX dipped -11.32 points to 34,144.67, dragged by financials and utilities, while U.S. markets rose (Dow +42.53, S&P 500 +18.45, Nasdaq +75.88). Oil increased $2.00 to $90.13/barrel, and gold edged up $5.70 to $4,829.30/oz. The Canadian dollar strengthened to 72.93 US cents.
AI: Anthropic launched Claude Opus 4.7, improving performance in coding, reasoning, and real-world tasks while intentionally limiting advanced cyber capabilities compared to Mythos Preview. The model includes built-in safeguards to block high-risk cybersecurity use and is available across platforms including Microsoft, Google, and Amazon at the same price as version 4.6. Anthropic continues prioritizing safe deployment while testing more powerful models through restricted programs like Project Glasswing.
Politics: Israel and Lebanon agreed to a 10-day ceasefire starting 5 p.m. ET, following talks in Washington, marking the first major engagement between the countries since 1983. The move comes amid a broader war that began on Feb. 28, with U.S. officials signaling progress toward a wider resolution. Leaders from both sides are expected to meet at the White House for further negotiations.
