House Pushes Vote on Epstein Files

A bipartisan group of House lawmakers is pushing to force a vote on releasing all federal files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, despite fierce opposition from the Trump administration and GOP leadership.

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., filed a discharge petition Tuesday that would compel the Justice Department to release all unclassified Epstein investigation materials within 30 days. The rare procedural move allows lawmakers to bypass House leadership and force a floor vote if they secure 218 signatures.

As of Wednesday, the petition had 214 signatures. In the morning, it had 134 signatures — 130 Democrats and four Republicans: Massie and Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, and Nancy Mace of South Carolina.

  • CRTC: Canada’s telecom regulator will require providers to report major network outages within two hours starting Nov. 4. Carriers must also submit a detailed report within 30 days explaining causes, effects, and fixes. The rules, made permanent after a 2022 Rogers outage left millions offline for 15 hours, aim to boost transparency and network reliability. • Trade War: An expert says the U.S.-Canada trade war has already reshaped the economy, with higher tariffs becoming the “new normal” regardless of the Supreme Court’s pending ruling on their legitimacy. BMO’s Sal Guatieri noted that U.S. growth has slowed to 1.4% annualized in the first half of the year, while Canada’s economy contracted 1.6% in Q2 as steel, aluminum, and auto sectors were hit hardest. Despite resilient consumer spending and strong U.S. business investment driven by AI, downside risks remain until the USMCA is renegotiated next year. Guatieri warned that if the U.S. withdraws from the deal, Canada could face a sharp downturn.

  • Lumber : Interfor Corp. will cut lumber production by about 12% through year-end, citing weak markets and economic uncertainty. The reduction equals 145 million board feet and will be carried out via shorter operating hours, longer holiday breaks, shift changes, and extended maintenance shutdowns. The curtailment will impact operations across both U.S. and Canadian regions.

  • NVIDIA: Chinese tech giants like Alibaba and ByteDance are still buying Nvidia’s H20 chips despite Beijing’s pressure, while also eyeing the more powerful B30A. Nvidia made 13% of its revenue from China last year and holds 600,000–700,000 H20 units in stock. The U.S. will take 15% of Nvidia’s China H20 revenue, but demand remains strong with China’s AI chip market valued at up to US$50 billion.
