Raskin Bill Targets Trump Removal

Rep. Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, introduced legislation today to establish a commission tasked with evaluating President Donald Trump’s fitness for office under the 25th Amendment. Backed by 50 Democratic co-sponsors, the bill aims to create a 17-member Commission on Presidential Capacity to determine if Trump is mentally or physically incapacitated to discharge his duties.
The move comes amid growing concerns over Trump’s recent behavior, including his threatening rhetoric on the US war with Iran. Raskin highlighted Trump’s social media posts, such as an image depicting himself as Jesus—later clarified by Trump as portraying a doctor—and a prior warning that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran failed to meet his demands on reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Though Trump later announced a two-week ceasefire, the initial threats fueled calls for action.

Granada Gold Mine Inc. (CSE: GGM) continues to develop and explore its 100% owned Granada Gold Property near Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, and is adjacent to the prolific Cadillac Break. The company has a current resource estimate of 543,000 ounces of gold at 2.05 g/t at their flagship Granada Gold Project. An ongoing drill program aims to complete 120,000 metres of drilling, with 20,000 metres completed to date.

What’s the latest?
Layoffs: Josh D’Amaro announced about 1,000 layoffs across marketing, studios, ESPN, and tech as The Walt Disney Company restructures to become more agile. The move follows earlier cuts of 7,000 jobs in 2023 aimed at saving $5.5B, amid industry pressures like declining TV revenues and increased competition. Disney had roughly 231,000 employees as of its last fiscal year.
AI: AI’s labor impact remains debated, with Dario Amodei warning unemployment could reach 20% within 5 years, while Jack Clark argues disruption is manageable and policy-driven. Adoption is rising—about 50% of U.S. workers use AI, but only 13% use it daily, limiting productivity gains so far. Meanwhile, companies are investing heavily in reskilling (e.g., 300,000 employees at Infosys) and prioritizing AI strategy roles, suggesting augmentation over mass displacement in the near term.
Markets: Canada’s S&P/TSX rose +124.98 points to 34,004, led by tech, while U.S. markets also gained (Dow +272, S&P 500 +55.77, Nasdaq +292.35). Oil fell $5.08 to $94/barrel, while gold rose $50.30 to $4,817.70/oz. The Canadian dollar strengthened to 72.69 US cents.
Energy: Scott Thomson says Middle East conflict could increase demand for Canadian energy exports, positioning Canada as a more secure supplier in a volatile market. He emphasized the importance of renewing CUSMA and warned that even modest trade frictions can disrupt supply chains and raise costs across key sectors. Scotiabank also plans to release its energy supply ratio, detailing the balance between fossil fuel and low-carbon financing.
Politics: The U.S. and Iran are exploring a second round of talks within 2 days, potentially in Pakistan or Geneva, after failed initial negotiations, while the war (now 7 weeks) has killed ~3,000 in Iran, 2,000+ in Lebanon, 23 in Israel, and 13 U.S. troops. The U.S. blockade of Iranian ports halted traffic, with 0 ships passing in the first 24 hours and multiple vessels turning back, disrupting a route that normally carries ~20% of global oil. Ongoing tensions, including 26 Hezbollah attacks in one day and continued Israeli strikes, risk reigniting broader conflict despite a fragile ceasefire.
