Robinhood Lets AI Spend and Trade for Users

Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ: HOOD) is handing retail investors a new kind of tool: an AI agent that can buy equities and swipe a credit card on their behalf, with no human required at the moment of execution. The brokerage is pitching it as the next frontier of automated personal finance, and the guardrails it has built in suggest it knows exactly how much can go wrong.
Customers who opt in open a dedicated agentic trading account that sits entirely apart from their existing portfolio. The AI agent can only touch money deposited specifically into that account, a hard wall between the bot and a user’s broader holdings. Within that perimeter, customers can direct the agent to build a diversified portfolio from scratch or shift position concentrations to chase emerging opportunities. At launch, the feature covers equities only. Options, cryptocurrencies, event contracts, and futures are all on the roadmap for later releases.

McLaren (CSE: MCL) is focused on exploration work on its gold properties in the Timmins Gold Region of Northeastern Ontario. McLaren owns a 100% interest in the past-producing 640 ha Blue Quartz Gold Mine property as well as the 1,770 ha McCool gold property and the 775 ha Kerrs gold property, which are located approximately 80 km east of Timmins city centre. The properties are proximal to the Destor-Porcupine Deformation Zone which is host to many of the gold deposits within the Abitibi Greenstone Belt.

What’s the latest?
Energy: Oil prices dropped more than 5% after Marco Rubio said the U.S. would give diplomacy with Iran “every chance to succeed.” Donald Trump also said the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to international shipping, easing some fears of prolonged supply disruptions. Still, industry experts warn it could take months or even into 2027 for oil flows through the region to fully return to normal levels.
Tech: Meta Platforms plans to launch paid subscription tiers for its AI assistant, introducing Meta One Plus at $7.99/month and Meta One Premium at $19.99/month. The plans will offer users higher AI usage limits, more advanced capabilities, and enhanced tools for creators and businesses, while a free version of Meta AI will remain available. The move marks Meta’s push to build AI-driven revenue streams beyond advertising as it competes with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google in the rapidly growing AI market.
Politics: Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Canada is negotiating to buy Saab’s GlobalEye surveillance aircraft, a radar system built on Canadian-made Bombardier Global 6500 jets. The deal could lead to at least 40 aircraft being manufactured in Canada over 15 years, supporting more than 3,000 aerospace and defence jobs. The move strengthens Canada’s Arctic surveillance capabilities while reducing reliance on U.S. defence suppliers, as tensions grow over military procurement and broader Canada-U.S. defence relations.
Aluminum: Canada is redirecting more aluminum exports to Europe after the U.S. imposed a 50% tariff on the metal, while supply disruptions from the Iran war pushed European aluminum premiums to record highs. European buyers are now competing aggressively with U.S. buyers for limited low-carbon aluminum supply, making Europe a more profitable destination for Canadian producers despite higher shipping costs. As a result, Canadian aluminum exports to Europe have surged, while shipments to the U.S. have declined significantly over the past year.
Trade Talk: Canada’s trade minister Dominic LeBlanc will travel to Washington next week for trade talks ahead of the July 1 CUSMA review deadline, following a recent video meeting with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. The U.S. continues pressuring Canada over issues like dairy supply management, provincial bans on American alcohol, and new streaming regulations, while Canada is pushing back against U.S. tariffs on steel, aluminum, autos, and lumber. Prime Minister Mark Carney said his separate trip to New York is focused on attracting investment rather than direct trade negotiations.
