Victoria Gold faces charges from regulators

Victoria Gold‘s (TSX: VGCX) Eagle mine in Yukon, Canada, is facing charges following a significant accident at its heap leach pad (HLP) this week. The incident, which resulted in a landslide and potential cyanide leak, is the second such occurrence at the site this year, according to government officials.

The accident led to the suspension of operations at Eagle, Yukon’s sole producing gold mine. Two workers required first aid treatment, with one sustaining minor injuries. The charges against Victoria Gold relate to water management under Yukon environmental regulations and typically involve fines.

• Air Travel: WestJet flight disruptions are set to continue despite a weekend deal to end a strike by its mechanics. The tentative agreement came after 680 mechanics walked off the job on Friday, disrupting travel plans over the Canada Day long weekend. WestJet reported canceling around 830 flights from Thursday to Monday, with additional cancellations continuing into the week due to logistical challenges.

• Bird Flu: The U.S. government has granted $176 million to Moderna to advance its bird flu vaccine. The funding will support late-stage development and testing of the mRNA-based vaccine against H5N1 avian influenza. This effort follows a multi-state outbreak affecting over 130 herds in 12 states, raising concerns about potential human transmission.

• France Elections: Opponents of France's far-right National Rally (RN) intensified efforts to block the party from gaining power, with over 180 candidates withdrawing from Sunday's run-off election to prevent splitting the vote.
